Public Health Services and Systems Research
Public health services and systems research (PHSSR) shares some methods with health services research (HSR), but focuses on the public health system rather than the health care system. It is an emerging field, and the below resources will provide a thorough overview of past accomplishments and current directions:
- Systems for Action – a research program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation focusing on cross-sector integrations and collaborations
- Evidence for Action – supports the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Culture of Health movement by funding investigator-initiated research that address gaps in the knowledge-base
- Policies for Action – funds research on policies, regulations, and laws that can support the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Culture of Health movement
- Public Health Practice-Based Research Networks – a hub for collaborative PHSSR efforts hosted by the University of Kentucky College of Public Health
- Frontiers in PHSSR – an open-source academic journal also hosted by the University of Kentucky College of Public Health
- American Journal of Public Health – the flagship journal of public health published by the American Public Health Association
- American Journal of Preventive Medicine – an academic journal that often publishes on PHSSR and general public health evidence
- Health Affairs – an academic journal focused on health care system policy, structure, and economics with some public health systems crossover
