Colorado Gaining Ground Initiative
CALPHO is an integral part of the Colorado Gaining Ground Initiative, a collaboration between six Colorado organizations. Gaining Ground aims to expand quality improvement (QI) expertise in Colorado’s local public health agencies (LPHAs), and to help prepare them for national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). Other Colorado Gaining Ground partners include:
In addition, the Colorado Gaining Ground leadership team has representatives from three LPHAs: Eagle County Public Health, El Paso County Public Health, and Pueblo City-County Health Department.
Since May 2014, Colorado Gaining Ground has been building a learning community that connects LPHA staff to QI and accreditation experts. Importantly, most of these experts are also public health practitioners in Colorado. This means that each formal learning session is also a networking event where peers can share innovations and best practices. Gaining Ground also invites professionals from organizations like the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and the Public Health Foundation (PHF) to provide expert instruction.
Some of the projects and activities that have been supported by Gaining Ground include the following:
